Why Be More Orca?
Female Orcas go through the Menopause when they’re about 40-50 years old.
They go on to live another 40 or 50 years and become the Leaders of their communities or Pods. Their Matriarchal society realises the value of their knowledge and experience, and chooses to follow them especially in hard times. They are vital to the survival of the whole Pod.
We need to Be More Orca in our approach and attitude to the Menopause. It isn't something to be feared. The symptoms shouldn’t just be chalked up to “oh well I’m getting old”. We shouldn’t be made to feel past our prime and relegated to the scrap heap.
Yes our society is youth obsessed but it’s up to us to change the narrative. We need to see the Menopause as just another phase in the entire life span of being a woman, like puberty.
It isn’t the end of womanhood. We have so much to offer and frankly so much life left to live. So come on! Be More Orca!
What does it mean to Be More Orca?
Accept who you are
I always hated my chubby cheeks, but now, hey it's Nature's collagen
We're all human
Acknowledge that there will be dark times, but know "this too shall pass"
Take control of your life
Find out what works for you and embrace it
Look after yourself more
It's not selfish to take time to care for yourself
Don't let others define you
We need to know our worth and society will follow
Lead by example
To help the women around us and future generations
Find the funny
Life's too short not to!
Hi, my name's India Fisher
I'm 48 and for my day job I do voice overs. This is me in my "home studio" I had to quickly cobble together in a cupboard in my bedroom so I could carry on working during Covid. Oh the glamour! This is where I record Be More Orca. Sorry, now you'll never be able to get that image out of your head.

When the Menopause hit me I had no idea what was going on. I just felt I was falling apart. That's when I knew I had to make sure other women weren't as clueless as me.
As I talk aloud for a living and am generally quite gobby, a Podcast seemed like a natural fit. And here we are.

Meet Dr Katie Barber
Dr Katie is Be More Orca's Menopause Specialist.
I'll be chatting to her on the Pod so we get the up to date information that we need to make informed decisions about our bodies and how we want to manage our symptoms. Then we can become the experts in our own Menopause.

Dr Katie also runs her own Private Menopause Clinic, Oxford Menopause.
